Who writes and reviews Xwills guidance?
Most Xwills estate-planning guidance is authored by Andrew Walters, Founder and Senior Will Writer. Articles identify the author and provide links to the Xwills About page and relevant professional profile information.
How we source legal and government information
For legal, tax, probate, property-ownership, care-funding and Lasting Power of Attorney topics, we prioritise primary sources such as GOV.UK, HMRC, HM Land Registry, HM Courts & Tribunals Service, the Office of the Public Guardian and legislation.gov.uk.
Where a topic depends on individual circumstances, we say so rather than presenting a general guide as personalised legal, tax or financial advice.
How we handle high-stakes estate-planning topics
Estate planning can affect a person’s property, tax position, care-funding assessment and family arrangements. We therefore avoid claims that a trust or Will structure guarantees a particular tax, care-fee or inheritance outcome. The effect of a legal arrangement depends on the facts, the documents used and the law that applies at the relevant time.
Updates and corrections
Guidance is reviewed when there are material legal, tax, fee or government-process changes and may also be refreshed to improve clarity. Article pages show publication and/or update information where available.
If you believe a page contains an error or an outdated statement, please contact Xwills so it can be checked.
Commercial transparency
Xwills publishes fixed-fee options for its own services. Government fees, third-party professional fees and specialist advice are identified separately where relevant. Probate guidance on this website is informational/referral content and is not presented as an Xwills probate legal service.
What this website is — and is not
The website provides general estate-planning information for England and Wales. It does not replace advice based on a person’s full circumstances. Complex tax, trust, cross-border, business, farming, care-funding or contentious-estate matters may require advice from an appropriately qualified specialist.
